Advanced bioStructural correction (ABC™) is a subluxation based technique taught and developed by Jesse J. Jutkowitz, D.C. [1]

ABC™ is centered around the idea that poor posture, caused by anterior displacement (subluxation) of vertebrae, causes compensatory misalignments that predispose the spinal cord to injury from excessive stretching of the meninges (the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord). Jutkowitz claims that vertebrae that get displaced forward get "stuck" because there is no muscle to pull them back, and that other vertebrae compensate for this by twisting[citation needed]. Jutkowitz describes this as "the major problem in the human body" and claims to relieve the problem by "unlocking the meninges."[2][3] [4]

Jutkowitz claims that ABC is the most effective[citation needed] system of diagnosing and treating structural (biomechanical) problems of the spine. Practitioners of ABC purport that this method is "consistent and predictably effective", and can precisely diagnose patients through either special physical examination procedures[citation needed] or by comparing measurements of sitting and standing full-spine x-rays[citation needed]. He claims his system alleviates musculoskeletal, neurological, and organic pathologies through "applying spinal cord relaxation."[citation needed]

ABC™ is centered around the idea that bones out of place can be divided into two very large categories:

1. Those bones out of place that the body can self-correct because it has muscles pulling in the directions needed to pull and return them to their optimal mechanical position; and,
2. Those bones out of place that the body CANNOT self-correct because it has no muscles pulling in the directions needed to pull and return them to their optimal mechanical position.

According to ABC™ one of the results of identifying these as the only two categories is that correction of the bones out of place that the body CANNOT self-correct will eventually lead to the correction by the body of the bones out of place that it can self-correct (though it does have working muscles pulling in the direction needed) but does not.

ABC™ claims poor posture is, at its most basic level, caused by anterior displacement a vertebra (or multiple vertebrae) that loose leverage allowing the body to fall forward.

Further, the bones out of place that the body CANNOT self-correct lead to compensatory misalignments that predispose the spinal cord to injury from excessive stretching of the meninges (the membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord).

In the spine, basic anatomy shows that a vertebra that get displaced forward will get "stuck" there because there is no muscle to pull them backward into position. Many mistake extensor muscle action of pulling down on the back of vertebrae to extend them and lean the body backward -- a compensation -- for this action but can see it as incorrect by having the person relax.

ABC™ alleviates musculoskeletal, neurological, and some, thought to be, organic pathologies by actual correction of body structure. Some of the corrections are the result of less physical tension on the nerves, some because of less physical tension or correction of the routes of blood vessels, some from the correction of positions of organs and most from a combination of those factors which occur as a result of actual structural correction.
